Complete Fertilizer Guide for Paddy Cultivation in Sri Lanka (Yala & Maha)

Step-by-step agronomic guide to balancing Urea, MOP, and Organic matter for record paddy yields under Sri Lankan soil conditions.

Paddy cultivation remains the lifeblood of Sri Lankan agriculture. Maximizing yields during both the Maha (northeast monsoon) and Yala (southwest monsoon) seasons requires a balanced nutrient management approach. ### 1. Basal Application (Before Final Leveling) Before transplanting or sowing pre-germinated paddy seeds, replenish soil minerals with high quality bio-compost and basal phosphate. Incorporating BioRich Organic Compost improves soil cation exchange capacity (CEC), allowing chemical fertilizers applied later to bind effectively rather than leaching away with irrigation water. ### 2. First Top Dressing (14–21 Days After Sowing) Nitrogen is crucial for vigorous tillering. Apply Aggro Urea (46% N) at recommended regional rates. Avoid applying nitrogen on waterlogged soils without controlling drainage. ### 3. Panicle Initiation Stage At this critical juncture, apply Aggro MOP (Muriate of Potash 60%) alongside remaining Urea. Potassium strengthens the rice stem against lodging during heavy rain and guarantees full grain filling without empty chaff.
